Dr. Monte Harrel O.D., F.C.O.V.D. : Dr. Harrel is the founder and administrator of  Oklahoma Vision Development Center and Harrel Eyecare Center. He completed a post-graduate fellowship in vision development and children's vision.  He is originally from Kingfisher and a graduate of Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma College of Optometry at NSU, where he is a guest lecturer and adjunct professor.

"Both of my parents were in education, and I was always aware of the challenges facing students when they are frustrated in school because of that.  When I first became aware of the specialty of vision therapy I visited the practice of Dr. Patrick Pirotte, who eventually became my mentor in developmental vision care.  He had been a college drop out due to visual issues, and only after having vision therapy he was able to return and finish college including optometry school.  The opportunity to help a child or person open doors that could not be entered without vision therapy is our ultimate reason for establishing and continually improving our vision therapy center. It's the most rewarding part of our practice."

Dr. Shannon Morgans O.D.: Originally from Illinois, Dr. Shannon Morgans attended Oklahoma State University for undergraduate and Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry for professional education. Consistent with our team, she has a strong background in family eyecare, is great with children, and is well versed in ocular disease management.

"The three main systems through which we take in information about our enviornment are the visual, auditory, and vestibular (balance).  These systems bring sensory information into the body through the eyes, ears, and nerves.  This sensory information is then transmitted to the brainstem where it is integrated.  Sensory integrations is an important function of the brainstem because it allows our bodies to function in a multi-sensory world without over stimulation.  When these primary sensory systems are not functioning efficiently, common visual issues that result are faulty visual-spatial perception and visual motor integration, poor left and right awareness, and light sensitivity."

Dr. Lynsey Bigheart, O.D.:  Dr. Lynsey Bigheart graduated from Northeastern State University College of Optometry after completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma. She has a strong background in family eyecare, and specialty skills in gas permeable lenses and children's eyecare.

"We all know the key to success on a personal level, a civic level, a national level, and a global level is EDUCATION.  I feel every person is entitled to knowledge and the skills required to obtain knowledge.  Individuals suffering with visual disorders struggle in the areas of reading and cognitive processing.  Vision Therapy can eliminate these struggles giving individuals the skills neded to acquire the education they deserve."

Julie McDowell, Director of Vision Therapy: Originally from Indiana, Julie is the Director of Oklahoma Vision Development Center.  She was first introduced to vision therapy when her oldest daughter went through it.  She truly understands how parents feel.

"Alexis is excited to sit and do homework.  She is eager to read.  Her overall focus is very noticeable.  The change this year and last year is like day and night.  My husband and I are thankful to the program."
"Delpha's eyes are much stronger.  We hardly ever see them cross anymore.  Also, we have noticed that she doesn't get frustrated while learning like she used to!"
